WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP)—Michael Puckett scored a career-high 19 points and Winston-Salem State overcame a 19-point first-half deficit to beat Alabama A&M 78-76 on Monday.
Roy Peake added 18 points and Paul Davis had 10 points and 11 rebounds for the Rams (3-5), who took their first lead with just under 8 minutes remaining. Winston-Salem State shot 54 percent in the second half and held on for its second straight win despite missing five of its last eight free throws.
Puckett hit 7 of 10 shots, including 4-of-6 from 3-point range.
Trant Simpson had 18 points for the Bulldogs (3-5), who led by 11 at halftime. Mickell Gladness and Evan Hilton added 12 points apiece, but Alabama A&M couldn’t overcome 18 turnovers.
