South Alabama beats Southern Miss. 75-68
MOBILE, Ala. (AP)—Daon Merritt had 24 points to help lead South Alabama to a 75-68 win over Southern Mississippi Wednesday night.
The Jaguars (6-3) scored their first point less than a minute into the game and never let the Golden Eagles (3-3) take the lead. South Alabama led by as many as 10 points.
Merritt was the game high scorer. Domonic Tilford chipped in with 22 points and Demetric Bennett added 12 points for South Alabama. Brandon Davis had nine points and 11 rebounds for the Jaguars.
R.L. Horton led Southern Mississippi with 17 points. Other double figure scorers were Sai’Quon Stone with 13 points, Courtney Beasley with 12 and Jeremy Wise with 10. Beasley also had seven rebounds.
South Alabama shot 53.3 percent to Southern Mississippi’s 39.7 percent. But the Golden Eagles outrebounded the Jaguars 42-26.
