BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP)—Deron Washington and A.D. Vassallo each scored 17 points to lead Virginia Tech to a 65-51 win over UNC Asheville on Saturday.
The Hokies (3-3) led 32-23 at the half, but UNC Asheville rallied in the second. A layup by Vincent James allowed the Bulldogs (6-2) to pull ahead 43-41 with 6:55 on the clock. He hit a free throw to put the Bulldogs up by three. But Washington followed quickly with a layup and a jumper, putting Virginia Tech ahead for good.
Reid Augst led UNC Asheville in scoring with 12 points and Bryan Smithson added 11.
The Hokies shot 43 percent from the field to the Bulldogs’ 32 percent and Tech outrebounded UNC Asheville 42-28.
