VALPARAISO, Ind. (AP)—Shawn Huff scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, as Valparaiso defeated Ball State 71-58 Saturday night to keep the Cardinals winless so far this season.
Ball State is now 0-6 for the first time in 84 years, while Valparaiso improved to 5-1.
Samuel Haanpaa added 15 points, including 5 3-pointers, for the Cardinals, who also got 13 points and nine rebounds from Urule Igbavboa.
Valparaiso led throughout, buoyed by the 10 3-pointers amassed by Huff and Haanpaa. The Cardinals made 42 percent of their 3-point attempts (13-of-31), while Ball State connected on none of its 16 3-point shots.
The Crusaders led by as many as 15 points in the first half, and led 34-21 at the half.
In the second half, Ball State rallied and came within four, 37-33, when Malik Perry made a layup with 15:23 to go. But that was as close as the Cardinals got and Valparaiso soon returned their lead to double-digits for the win.
