OMAHA (AP)—Creighton outscored Savannah State 22-4 over the first seven minutes in a 78-52 victory on Thursday.
The Bluejays (4-0) hit eight of their first 12 shots and held the Tigers to one field goal in the first 7:30 of the game.
Reserves saw plenty of action in the non-conference game, which was the Tigers’ 10th game in 21 days. The teams used a total of 28 players in the first half. The game also featured 61 free throw attempts and 45 combined turnovers.
Creighton got 34 points from its bench before intermission, including eight points each from reserves Kenny Lawson and Booker Woodfox. The Jays, who had 10 different players score in the first half, led 47-28 at the break then netted 12 of the first 13 points of the second half.
Creighton broke its school record with 18 steals, led by guard Josh Dotzler’s four.
Only three players finished the game in double figures. Freshman P’Allen Stinnett had 13 points for the Jays to lead all scorers. Kaleb Korver added 10 points for Creighton, which led by as many as 32 at one point in the second half and finished with 60 bench points.
Raye Bailey scored 11 points to pace Savannah St. The Tigers (5-5), who scored 20 of their 52 points from the foul line, were playing their first of six consecutive games on the road.
