RICHMOND, Va. (AP)—David Gonzalves hit three of his career-high seven 3-pointers during a 12-1 Richmond spurt late in the second half and the Spiders held off William & Mary to win 58-55 Wednesday.
William & Mary (1-4) went on a 20-7 run that gave them a 49-41 lead with 7:39 remaining. Kevin Anderson hit a 3-pointer, and Gonzalves followed with 3s on the Spiders’ next three possessions, giving Richmond a 53-50 edge with 4:44 remaining. Laimis Kisielius missed a 3-pointer with 1 second left that would have tied the game.
The Spiders (4-4) were led by Gonzalves’ 21 points. Justin Harper added 13.
William & Mary was led by Nathan Mann with 13 points, and Alex Smith and Chris Darnell each had 10.
