WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP)—T.J. Carter scored 21 points and North Carolina-Wilmington held on to beat Toledo 65-61 on Wednesday night.
Daniel Fountain added 15 points for the Seahawks (4-2), who never trailed and led by 15 in the second half before the Rockets rallied.
Toledo made it a one-point game when Jerrah Young’s dunk with 2:12 left made it 60-59. But Carter—who was perfect on 10 attempts from the foul line—hit two free throws 30 seconds later.
Todd Hendley and Fountain then added free throws in the closing moments to extend UNC Wilmington’s lead to 64-59.
Tyrone Kent had 18 points to lead Toledo (1-5), which has lost five straight since a season-opening win against Missouri State. Young and Jonathan Amos each had 16 points for the Rockets, who allowed UNC Wilmington to shoot 52.4 percent.
The Seahawks were 17-of-20 from the free-throw line.
