EMMITSBURG, Md. (AP)—Travis Lay scored a game-high 17 points and grabbed 7 rebounds, and American defeated Mount St. Mary’s 66-45 Monday night.
Lay made 7 of 7 free throws and landed 5 of 8 from the field.
Although the Eagles only shot 39 percent, they methodically played offense and lock-down defense, holding Mount St. Mary’s to 31.4 percent in shooting.
Garrison Carr had 12 points and Brian Gilmore and Constantin Motnii contributed 10 points each for American (4-3).
Jeremy Goode scored a team-high 10 points for Mount St. Mary’s (0-4). Derrick Mercer added seven assists and six rebounds.
