William & Mary tops Houston Baptist, 79-70
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. (AP)—David Schneider and Laimis Kisielius each scored 19 points to lead William & Mary to a 79-70 win over Houston Baptist on Sunday, extending coach Tony Shaver’s home opener streak to five.
The Tribe (1-3) trailed 38-36 at the half, but rallied to a 74-61 lead with 4:26 to play on a layup by Chris Stratton.
The Huskies (1-9) cut the lead to 74-67 with 2:16 left on a pair of free throws by Kevin Amend, but Schneider’s 3-pointer and Chris Darnell’s dunk in the remaining minutes kept William & Mary ahead.
Darnell had 12 points and nine rebounds for the Tribe and Stratton added 10.
Sean Morris and Emanuel Willis each had 14 points for Houston Baptist, which is making a return to NCAA Division I after a 19-year run as an NAIA program. Amend added 11.
