INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Junior guard George Hill had 29 points and 10 rebounds and IUPUI used free throws to turn back Chicago State 78-70 Saturday.
Jon Avery added 21 points and six of IUPUI’s 16 steals, and Austin Montgomery and LeRoy Nobles added 10 points each for the Jaguars (4-2).
Five-foot-8 point guard David Holston, who entered the game averaging 26.6 points per game, scored 29 including 7-of-12 on 3-pointers for Chicago State (2-4). John Cantrell added 23 points.
Chicago State, which led by eight points as late as 13:51 to go in the game, outshot IUPUI from the floor, but the Jaguars converted 28-of-33 free throws to just 4-of-6 for the visiting Cougars. Both teams shot 48 percent from the field.
IUPUI also dominated inside, outrebounding Chicago State 34-27 and scoring 38 points in the paint.
Avery and Nobles led an IUPUI bench that outscored the Cougars 33-6.
The Jaguars also converted 24 Chicago State turnovers into 29 points.
