Rhode Island extends big halftime lead to route Toledo
SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (AP)—Will Daniels scored a game-high 26 points and Jimmy Baron added 18 lifting Rhode Island to a 83-57 win over Toledo on Saturday night.
Daniels was 10-of-15 from the floor and also had four rebounds and a pair of assists for the Rams (5-1). Baron hit 4-of-8 3-point attempts and went 7-of-12 from the field overall. Rhode Island, who never trailed, led 43-28 at halftime.
The Rockets (1-4) were led by forward Tyrone Kent with 20 points while Ridley Johnson added 12.
The Rams opened the second half with a 13-3 run. Daniels finished a layup on a fast break and hit a free throw after he was fouled to open a 52-31 lead with 17:05 remaining.
Toledo made just one of its first six field goal attempts in the second half. The Rockets, who dropped their fourth consecutive game, shot 37.5 percent from the floor.
Rhode Island had 17 turnovers to the Rockets 14. The Rockets have lost ten non-conference road games in a row dating to 2005. Rhode Island outrebounded Toledo 40-23.
