Missouri State goes cold but hangs on for win over Saint Louis
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP)—Missouri State hit just three field goals in the final 9:30 but managed to hang on for a 60-56 win over St. Louis University on Wednesday night.
The Billikens (4-2) trailed by as many as 14 in the first half but cut Missouri State’s second half lead to 34-26 with 14:57 left.
Missouri State (3-1), which shot 65 percent from the field in the first half, responded with a 13-6 run of its own to go up 47-32 with 8:42 left. But after a 3-pointer by Chris Cooks with 9:30 left, the Bears didn’t hit another field goal until a 3-pointer by Shane Laurie with 2:45 left.
After Missouri State’s run, St. Louis got to within 50-44 with 3:24 left and hit five 3-pointers in the last 4:31, including one by Kevin Lisch with 5.8 seconds left to get the Billikens to within 59-56.
Laurie, Dale Lamberth and Deven Mitchell scored 10 points each for Missouri State.
Lisch and Barry Eberhardt each finished with 16 for St. Louis, while Tommy Liddell III and Luke Meyer each had 11. Meyer also had 10 rebounds.
