DELAND, Fla. (AP)—Guard A.J. Smith scored a season-high 21 points to lead Stetson to a 62-51 win over Bethune-Cookman on Wednesday night.
Smith scored 14 of his 21 points in the second half as the Hatters (2-4) outscored the Wildcats 41-28.
Guard Garfield Blair added 11 points for Stetson and forward Sheldon Oliver led the Hatters? 41-20 advantage on the boards with 11 rebounds.
Bethune-Cookman led 30-29 after a layup by Pettus with 14:06 to play in the second half. Stetson responded with a 13-5 run, which led to a 42-35 lead. The Hatters never trailed again.
Guard Jimmy Hudson led Bethune-Cookman (0-4) with 13 points and six rebounds. Guards Dewayne Pettus and Josh Cummings each had 10 points for the Wildcats.
