PROVO, Utah (AP)—Jimmer Fredette scored a career high 19 points along with four steals to lead Brigham Young to a 97-73 win over Hartford on Tuesday night.
BYU (4-0) had five players in double figures, including Lee Cummard and Jonathan Tavernari with 18 points each. The Cougars shot 62 percent from the field and made 13 of 22 3-pointers.
After trailing 46-22 at halftime, Hartford (1-4) fought back in the second half and pulled within 12 at 58-46 on a 3-pointer by Morgan Sabia with 10:40 remaining. Sabia scored a team-high 19 points, all in the second half.
The Cougars responded immediately with a 9-0 run to push the lead back to 21.
BYU also had a 22-4 run in the first half and a 14-3 spurt just before halftime.
BYU outrebounded the Hawks 37-19. Tavernari had a game-high eight rebounds.
Hartford, which struggled from the floor in the first half, shot 53 percent in the second.
The victory extended BYU’s home winning streak to 34 games.
