YPSILANTI, Mich. (AP)—Carlos Medlock scored 16 points and Justin Dobbins added 14 points and eight rebounds in Eastern Michigan’s 72-55 victory over Radford on Sunday.
The Eagles (1-1) built a 13-point lead midway through the second half, fueled by a 16-2 run after the Highlanders took had taken a 36-35 lead on Amir Johnson’s 4-point play.
Radford (0-2) used a quick run of its own to get to within 10 points with help from Kenny Thomas, who finished with 19.
But Eastern Michigan responded by using a post presence sparked by Dobbins and Wendale Farrow, who scored 10 points. Eastern finished with a 36-20 advantage in the paint.
Jarred Axon, who scored 11 points, and Zane Gay with 10 powered Eastern Michigan’s perimeter attack along with Medlock.
The Eagles overcame a sluggish start and led 29-28 at halftime, despite allowing Radford to score the final four points of the half.
Joey Lynch-Flohr added 14 points and Martell McDuffy 10 for the Highlanders, who opened their season Friday with an 82-55 loss at Michigan.
