Nebraska opens with 67-52 win over Presbyterian

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—Jay R. Strowbridge scored all 12 of his points in the first half to lead Nebraska to a 67-52 win over Presbyterian on Saturday.

The Cornhuskers made five of their first six 3-pointers and led by 27 at intermission.

Presbyterian (0-1) was playing its first game in NCAA Division I and did not score for more than five minutes. By then Nebraska (1-0) was up 10-0.

The Huskers went ahead 23-5 on Ade Dagunduro’s 3-pointer with 10:58 left. Nebraska then went cold, going scoreless for more than four minutes. The Blue Hose scored seven unanswered to cut the lead to 11 on Josh Johnson’s basket with 6:24 left in the half.

Nebraska closed the half with a 20-4 run, going up 43-16 on Ryan Anderson’s buzzer-beating 3-pointer.

Nebraska hit 70 percent of its shots in the first half, 67 percent from 3-point range. Presbyterian made just 23 percent of its first half field goal tries.

Nebraska hit its first two shots of the second half to go up by 31, the largest lead of the game. Presbyterian used an 11-0 spurt midway through the second half to cut the Nebraska lead to 18.

The Blue Hose, who made nine of their first 10 3-pointers in the second half, closed the gap to 15 three times late in the game as Nebraska scored just eight points in the final 12:45.

Presbyterian hit 10 of 15 3-pointers in the second half while Nebraska went 0 for 6 from behind the arc in the final 20 minutes.

Aleks Maric had 10 of his 14 points in the second half to lead Nebraska in scoring. Dagunduro added 11 for the Huskers.

Walt Allen led the Blue Hose with 13 and Johnson added 11.
