HOUSTON (AP)—Deforrest Riley-Smith scored 15 points to help lead Southern to a 64-55 victory over Texas Southern on Thursday night.
Joseph Jack, Geri Guillory and Steffon Wiley each scored 10 points for Southern (9-20, 8-9 Southwestern Athletic).
Chris Moore had 19 points and 16 rebounds to lead Texas Southern (13-15, 9-8). Sollie Norwood added 13 points and Stpaul Latham scored 12. Only two other players scored for Texas Southern.
Texas Southern jumped out to a 7-0 lead but Southern then went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 9-9 on a jumper by Riley-Smith with 14:15 left in the first half. Guillory’s layup with 12:56 left gave Southern the lead for good.
Southern shot 39 percent from the field while Texas Southern shot 33 percent.
Southern led 34-20 at the half.
