BALTIMORE (AP)—Rashad West scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed four rebounds, and Hampton defeated Coppin State 71-56 Monday night.
West was 5-of-6 from the floor in the second half after shooting 1-for-7 from the field in the first half. He sank 12 of 16 from the free throw line and added four assists, four rebounds and two steals.
West sparked an 8-0 Hampton run to begin the second half by scoring five points giving the Pirates a 40-30 lead with 16:57 to play. Hampton (12-12, 8-5 MEAC) scored 41 points in the second half.
The Pirates held Coppin State’s Tywain McKee to just eight points on 3-of-10 shooting.
Brian Chesnut scored a team-high 17 points for Coppin (7-17, 5-7).
