WEST HARTFORD, Conn. (AP)—Mike Trimboli scored 20 points as Vermont held off a late surge from Hartford for a 76-63 victory on Thursday.
Trimboli was 5-for-9 from the 3-point arc and scored 14 points in the second half. Chris Holm scored 18 points and had 14 rebounds, and Colin McIntosh had 13 points for Vermont (14-6, 6-1).
Jaret Von Rosenberg scored 22 points and Joe Zeglinski scored 17 for Hartford (9-11, 3-5), which lost its fourth consecutive game.
After Hartford tied the score 13-13 on a Fabrice Tafo basket with 8:48 left in the first half, Vermont countered with a 22-6 run. Zeglinski stopped the run with a 3-pointer with 2:00 left in the half, but by then, Vermont had built a 35-22 lead. The Catamounts extended their lead on a Trimboli 3-pointer and a Holm basket at the buzzer, giving Vermont a 40-22 lead at the half.
Hartford rallied from a 24-point deficit in the second half. Zeglinski cut Vermont’s lead to just 63-58 on a 3-pointer with 5:05 left in the game. But Vermont was able to hold on, sealing the victory on one of two free throws from Chad Powlovich with 46 seconds left for the game’s final margin.
Vermont has now won nine of its last 10 games and extended its winning streak on the road to seven straight victories.
