Purdue 67, Michigan 53
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP)—Carl Landry scored 22 points and David Teague added 21 as Purdue beat Michigan 67-53 on Saturday night.
Purdue (12-5, 2-2 Big Ten) bounced back from an 85-58 loss to intrastate rival Indiana on Wednesday to post its best start since 1998-1999 and improve to 11-0 at home.
Purdue forced 17 turnovers in its best defensive effort since holding Delaware State to 40 points on Dec. 2.
The Boilermakers shot 57 percent against the Wolverines. Teague made 8 of 10 field goals and Landry made 9 of 14.
Michigan (14-4, 2-1), which was led by Dion Harris’ 21 points, started off hot in the second half. Two quick baskets by Courtney Sims cut the Boilermakers’ 15-point lead to 46-40.
Purdue responded with an 8-3 run, highlighted by a nifty reverse layup by Chris Lutz, to bump its lead to 56-43 with 9:36 left. The Boilermakers led by at least 10 points the rest of the way.
Michigan jumped out to an 8-2 lead, but Purdue went on a 20-5 run to take a 22-13 lead with 10:37 left in the first half.
Purdue held Michigan without a field goal for more than seven minutes late in the first half to take a 42-27 halftime lead. Teague scored 16 points and made 4 of 5 3-pointers before the break.
