MALIBU, Calif. (AP)—Gyno Pomare had 22 points and a career-best 15 rebounds as San Diego beat Pepperdine 71-67 Saturday night.
Daniel Fleming had 10 points, Brandon Johnson had nine assists and Chris Lewis had eight rebounds for the Toreros (11-6, 1-2 West Coast Conference).
With 1:20 remaining, Pepperdine pulled within three after Marvin Lea hit a 3-pointer. But San Diego scored the next four points to stop the comeback.
Lea scored all of his 11 points in the final six minutes.
Chase Griffin had 23 points and seven rebounds to lead the Waves (4-15, 0-3), who are amid their worst season since 1965-66, when they began 2-17. They’ve lost five straight.
Pomare, who also had two blocks, dominated early with 10 points and six rebounds in the first nine minutes. He finished with 14 first-half points and the Toreros took a 37-30 lead into halftime.
