Mississippi St. 74, Alabama St. 59
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP)—Jamont Gordon scored 16 points to lead Mississippi State to a 74-59 win over Alabama State on Monday.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Bulldogs (8-2), their longest winning streak since the 2004-2005 season.
The Bulldogs shot 48 percent from the field, after hitting 58 percent in the first half, and beat the Hornets on defense with eight blocks and 13 points off turnovers.
The Bulldogs out-rebounded the Hornets 46-36 and outscored them 40-24 in the paint.
Alabama State (2-7) led 4-3 just over two minutes into the game. It was the Hornets’ only lead of the game and the first time an opponent has led the Bulldogs since the second half of the team’s Nov. 29 game against Charlotte.
Jarvis Varnado had his second straight game with double-digit points, scoring 12 to go with his four blocked shots.
Reginald Delk chipped in 11 points.
Andrew Hayles accounted for most of the Hornet offense, scoring 23 points.
