CORVALLIS, Ore. (AP)—Hector Hernandez had 23 points and 12 rebounds and Fresno State beat Oregon State 74-67 Saturday.
Sasa Cuic had 17 points for the Beavers in his first game back from suspension. Marcel Jones had 16.
The Beavers were in good position to win the game, up 67-60 after Jack McGillis made a 3-pointer with 7:51 left in the half. But Oregon State simply collapsed from there, going 1-of-11 from the field and committing four turnovers in a row at one point. The Bulldogs put together a 11-0 run, including the go-ahead 3-pointer from Ja’Vance Coleman as the Beavers continued to throw up bricks.
Kevin Bell had 13 points, five rebounds and five assists for Fresno State (7-0). Dominic McGuire had 12 points and seven rebounds, reserve Eddie Miller had 11 points, including three 3-pointers.
Josh Tarver had 14 points and six rebounds for the Beavers (4-4). Kyle Jeffers had 10 points and eight rebounds.
Oregon State was up 17-12 and led for most of the first half, until Eddie Miller made a 3-pointer and Dominic McGuire hit two free throws to give the Bulldogs a 31-30 lead. Fresno State capitalized on back-to-back baskets from Hernandez (he had nine points and nine rebounds in the first half) to take a 39-34 advantage into the break.
The Beavers came out hot in the second half, quickly turning a five-point deficit into a five-point lead at 48-43. With the score 67-60, they had a chance to go ahead by nine, but Cuic was whistled for a foul on an offensive rebound.
From there the wheels just came off for the Beavers. Tarver picked up his fourth foul, going to the bench and leaving Oregon State without its best ballhandler. The Beavers went 13 possessions without a point until Tarver scored with 8.7 seconds left. By then, the game was out of hand.
Cuic missed two games after being suspended for selfish play and attitude problems. He was reinstated this week.
