LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—Aleks Maric had a double-double for Nebraska, and the Cornhuskers opened a 20-point lead in the game’s first 12 minutes to beat North Texas 76-57 on Wednesday.
Nebraska’s (5-0) man-to-man defense held North Texas well below its 81 points-per-game season average.
The 6-foot-11 Maric grabbed 11 rebounds and scored 26 points, starting with a rare 3-pointer to open the game.
The Huskers scored the first 12 points of the game.
Nebraska led by as many as 23, but North Texas (5-2) had a 7-point run toward the end of the first half to cut Nebraska’s lead to 39-23.
Nebraska’s defense held North Texas to 26 percent shooting in the first half and forced 15 turnovers, leading to 15 Husker points.
Nebraska used a 10-point run to take a 65-37 lead with less than 10 minutes in the game.
Ryan Anderson scored 18 points for Nebraska and Charles Richardson added 11. Calvin Watson led the Mean Green with 16 points; Michael Sturns scored 11 points.
