Mississippi St. 78, Charlotte 69
STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP)—Jamont Gordon scored 20 points Wednesday to lead Mississippi State to a 78-69 victory over Charlotte.
Gordon was 6 of 10 from the field and the point guard also led the Bulldogs (3-2) in rebounds for the fourth time this season with 12.
Mississippi State committed a season-low 11 turnovers, including just two in the second half, to stop a two-game losing streak.
A pair of freshmen, Ben Hansbrough and Barry Stewart, added 15 and 13 points, and Charles Rhodes chipped in 11.
The 49ers (2-3) led by six early and were tied late in the first half. But Hansbrough hit a running 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Bulldogs a 29-26 halftime advantage.
The Bulldogs grabbed a season-high 46 rebounds and earned 28 points in the paint.
Leemire Goldwire led the 49ers with 23 points, hitting 7 of 8 free throws. De’Angelo Alexander added 14 points and Drayton chipped in 12.
