BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP)—Jerry Smith scored 26 points to lead Samford to a 80-66 win over Ohio Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs (2-3) shot 63.9 percent from the floor to beat Ohio (2-1).
Randall Gulina added 18 points to Samford’s score. Curtis West had 16 and Travis Peterson had 14. Both of them had five assists.
Sonny Troutman led Ohio with 29 points. Bubba Walther chipped in with 17 points and five 3-pointers, and Leon Williams had ten points.
Going into halftime, Samford was already leading 33-17. Ohio rallied in the second half with 49 points, but it was too little too late.
