EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP)—Paul Gause hit a three-point play and a 3-point basket late in a 19-2 spurt that carried Seton Hall to an 80-60 over St. Peter’s on Monday night, the Pirates’ 11th straight win over their New Jersey rival.
Brian Laing, who started the spurt with four straight points at the end of the first half, had 18 points and nine rebounds to lead Seton Hall (3-1). Freshman Eugene Harvey added 15 points, six assists, six rebounds and four steals, while Jamar Nutter added 15 points.
The Pirates’ pressure defense forced 22 turnovers, making 18 steals, including five by Gause.
Raul Orta had 15 points to lead St. Peter’s (2-4), which dropped its third straight game. Todd Sowell added 14 points and 11 rebounds for the Peacocks, who have lost 20 of the last 21 games to Seton Hall. Kevin Spann added 13.
