Middle Tennessee 64, Belmont 57

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP)—Desmond Yates scored 23 points as Middle Tennessee took a late lead over Belmont to win 64-57 on Monday.

The Bruins led the Blue Raiders (2-4) through the first half, but never led again after Kevin Kanaskie shot a 3-pointer at 2:56 in the second half to lift the score to 54-53.

Nigel Johnson, who scored 12 points overall, extended the lead with another 3-pointer at 2:14 and added two free throws a minute later.

Belmont’s last lead was at 3:33 when a 3-point shot by Josh Goodwin made it 53-51.

Justin Hare scored 17 points for Belmont (3-2), which led 27-24 at halftime. Boomer Herndon added another 14 points.

Middle Tennessee shot 44 percent from the field while Belmont hit 38 percent. ^
