BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP)—Kyle Hines scored 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead UNC Greensboro to a 79-67 victory over Gardner-Webb on Tuesday.
Mikko Koivisto had a season-high 16 points, including three 3-pointers, and Ricky Hickman also added 16 for the Spartans.
UNC Greensboro (1-4) struggled in the first half, shooting just 31 percent from the field. But Koivisto’s 3-pointer just before the buzzer put the Spartans up 36-33 at the half.
Ricky McPhee led with 17 points for Gardner-Webb (0-4), which took an early 13-3 lead in the first half. Chris Gash added 16 points and Auryn MacMillan had 11 for Gardner-Webb.
The Bulldogs regained the lead in the second half on back-to-back 3-pointers by McPhee, but the Spartans nailed 12 shots in a row to lead 63-52 with just under six minutes to play.
UNC Greensboro scored 22 points off Gardner-Webb turnovers.
