INDIANAPOLIS (AP)—Justin Hare had 23 points and Belmont scored its final six points on free throws to save a 67-61 victory over IUPUI on Saturday night.
The Bruins (2-1) overcame a seven-point deficit in the first half, tied the game at 33 at halftime on two free throws by Hare and pulled away in the final 9 minutes of the second period.
The Jaguars’ biggest lead was 25-18 before a 3-pointer by Hare started a 7-0 run that tied the game.
IUPUI (2-3) last led at 43-42 before a layup by Boomer Herndon put Belmont in front for good. The Bruins’ final field goal was by Hare with 1:21 remaining, but they iced the game in the final minute with three free throws by Henry Harris, two by Matthew Dotson and one by Hare.
Dotson finished with 14 points and was the only other Belmont player in double figures. IUPUI was led by David Barlow with 21 points, Angelo Smith with 12 and Austin Montgomery with 11.
