GREENSBORO, N.C. (AP)—Darrell Jenkins and Jeremy Ingram scored 19 points apiece to lead East Carolina to a 72-64 victory over UNC Greensboro on Saturday.
Jenkins had eight rebounds while Courtney Captain added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Pirates, who shot about 42 percent from the field and held the Spartans to 35 percent shooting.
UNC Greensboro had four players score in double digits, led by Kyle Hines and Dwyane Johnson with 13 points each. Ricky Hickman and Mikko Koivisto each added 12 points.
The Spartans scored the first 10 points of the game and led 34-33 at the half. They tied the game at 60-60 with 2:37 left on a steal and lay-up by Johnson.
But East Carolina wrapped up the game on a 12-4 run, spoiling UNC Greensboro’s home opener. Captain scored five of the Pirates’ 12 final points at the free throw line.
UNC Greensboro shot just 25.8 percent in the second half.
