PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP)—David Hoskins scored 14 points to help Kansas State defeat Rutgers 55-41 Wednesday night and spoil the debut of Scarlet Knights coach Fred Hill.
In a game marked by sloppy play on both sides, Kansas State led by nine points at the half and pulled away early in the second half to improve to 2-0 under first-year coach Bob Huggins, who was hired in March after 16 seasons at Cincinnati.
J.R. Inman led Rutgers with 17 points.
Lance Harris scored eight of his 11 points on two 3-pointers and a baseline jumper to spark a 12-6 run in the first four minutes of the second half as Kansas State opened up a 40-25 lead. The lead reached 19 before Rutgers cut the gap to 11.
Rutgers, already suffering through an abysmal shooting night, saw its fortunes dip even further when forward Inman left the game with a left leg injury with 10:26 left. He returned with 4:44 left but got little support. The Scarlet Knights finished the game shooting 9-for-47 (19 percent).
