FRESNO, Calif. (AP)—Eddie Miller scored 23 points, including seven 3-pointers, as Fresno State beat UC Irvine 82-51 on Sunday night.
Dominic McGuire added 13 points, six rebounds, five assists, four blocks and two steals for Fresno State (3-0).
The Bulldogs broke open the game with a 3-pointer barrage in the second half. Miller made five of his 3-pointers in the second half, including two during a 13-0 spurt that turned the game into a blowout.
Fresno State’s lead swelled to as large as 36 points before both coaches began liberal substitutions. Hector Hernandez added 12 points for the Bulldogs. Quinton Hosley had eight points and a game-high 10 rebounds.
Patrick Sanders scored 16 points and Darren Fells added 13 points and seven rebounds for UC Irvine (1-2).
Fresno State led 35-24 at halftime thanks to a 13-0 scoring run fueled by McGuire and Hosley. McGuire made two jumpers during the surge and set up a Hosley dunk with a steal and assist.
Sanders and Fells combined for 20 of the Anteaters’ 24 first-half points. UC Irvine shot just 34.7 percent from the field, including 5-of-19 from beyond the arc.
