NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Valdas Vasylius scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half to help Old Dominion stay comfortably ahead Saturday and the Monarchs beat Arkansas State 69-61 in the second round of the Cox Communication Classic.
The Monarchs (2-0) led 38-25 at halftime and by double figures until the final 15 seconds. Drew Williamson added 10 of his 17 points in the second half.
The Indians (0-2) got 20 points from Adrian Banks, 15 from Ryan Wedel and 12 from Chris Brown, but only two other players scored and totaled just 14 points.
Old Dominion was outshot 54 percent to 41 percent, but outrebounded the Indians 33-23, outscored them 20-2 on second-chance points and turned 20 turnovers into 20 points.
