FRESNO, Calif. (AP) -Ja’Vance Coleman scored 17 points and Dominic McGuire had 10 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks as Fresno State pulled away for a 73-63 victory over Southern Alabama on Saturday night.
Trajinski Grigsby had 14 points for South Alabama (1-1), which trailed by double digits throughout most of the second half after leading by a point at halftime.
Eddie Miller added 13 points for Fresno State (2-0) and Hector Hernandez had 11. Nine of Miller’s points came on three-pointers.
With McGuire and Shawn Taylor dominating the paint, Fresno State enjoyed a 50-34 rebounding advantage and won despite committing 18 turnovers.
Quinton Hosley and Taylor added 10 points apiece for the Bulldogs.
South Alabama led 29-28 at halftime with only 31.6 percent shooting from the field. Daon Merritt added 11 points for the Jaguars.
The Bulldogs made 5-of-9 three-pointers in the second half after going 0-for-10 from beyond the stripe in the first.
