Norfolk St. 80, Bethune-Cookman 66
NORFOLK, Va. (AP)—Tony Murphy scored 20 of his 26 points in the second half and grabbed a career-high nine rebounds as Norfolk State beat Bethune-Cookman 80-66 Wednesday night.
Murphy shot 5-of-7 from 3-point range to tie his career high in points.
Norfolk State (11-17, 10-8 Mid Eastern Athletic Conference) stretched a 38-32 halftime lead to 21 points after starting the second half with an 18-3 run that included eight from Murphy. Bethune-Cookman (15-13, 11-6) could get no closer than 14 the rest of the way.
The Spartans jumped out to an eight-point lead, but Antonio Webb answered with eight straight points and Sam Barber tied it at 15 apiece with a layup with 14:03 left in the first half. Norfolk State led by as many as 11 in the first half.
Webb led Bethune-Cookman with 13 points and Michael Williams II had 10. Neither scored in the second half.
Al’Davon Thomas scored 11 for the Spartans and Keith Young and Corey Lyons each had 10.
