CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP)—Tony Young scored 18 points on 6-of-11 shooting Tuesday to lead Southern Illinois in a 62-48 win over Creighton, extending the Salukis’ home winning streak to 33 games and snapping Creighton’s six-game win streak.
Jamaal Tatum scored 15 points for the Salukis (15-5, 8-2 Missouri Valley), who held a 27-23 halftime lead. The Salukis put the game out of Creighton’s reach in the second half, when they shot 50 percent from the field compared with Creighton’s 30 percent.
Matt Shaw added 12 points and five rebounds in the win.
Johnny Mathies led the way for Creighton (13-5, 7-3), scoring 15 points with four rebounds. Dane Watts added 10 points, but the Bluejays could not match the Salukis’ offense. Creighton shot just 33 percent from the field in the loss.
Southern Illinois’ last home loss was on Jan. 2, 2004.
