Canisius 84, Fairfield 73
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (AP)—Chuck Harris scored 16 of his 19 points in the second half and Canisius made 11 3-pointers in an 84-73 victory over Fairfield in a Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference game Saturday.
Canisius (4-8, 3-1 MAAC), won its third straight game and had five players score in double figures.
It made six second-half 3-pointers as it pulled away from Fairfield (3-8, 1-2). Harris added nine rebounds and Jon Popofski scored 16 points. Corey Herring had 12 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Terrence Todd led Fairfield with 25 points.
The Stags shot 34 percent to Canisius’ 60 percent. The Stags led by six late in the first half, but the Griffs came back and took a 35-32 halftime lead on a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by Popofski.
Canisius never trailed again. Harris scored 12 points in a 10-minute span during the second half and four straight Canisius hoops were 3-pointers as it took a 65-55 lead with 6:11 to play.
Fairfield closed to within six in the final two minutes, but committed a turnover that led to an Ola Matti hoop that put Canisius ahead 73-65.
