MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP)—Nathan Peavy scored 22 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Miami of Ohio to a 75-62 win over Central Michigan on Sunday.
Doug Penno hit a pair of 3-pointers as part of a 17-4 run by the RedHawks (3-1, 1-0 Mid-American) to start the second half and give Miami a 46-34 lead.
The Chippewas (1-4, 0-1) trimmed Miami’s lead to seven points with 9:03 to play on a layup by Giordan Watson, but the RedHawks answered with a layup by Nate Vandersluis and a pair of free throws by William Hatcher. Miami never led by less than 10 the rest of the way.
Tim Pollitz added 12 points and six rebounds for the RedHawks, while Penno and Hatcher each scored 11.
Miami has now won 10 straight over the Chippewas and is 11-1 since Charlie Coles became head coach.
Sefton Barrett scored 22 points to lead Central Michigan, and Watson added 17.
Central Michigan’s 7-foot-1 center, Drew Walker, played in his first game of the season coming off a foot injury and scored six points in 21 minutes of action.
