Columbia 61, Sacred Heart 59

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (AP)—Justin Armstrong hit a pull-up jumper in the lane with 6 seconds to play as Columbia stayed unbeaten with a 61-59 victory over Sacred Heart on Wednesday night.

Sacred Heart trailed 56-55 with 2:22 left when Tavio Hobson found Kibwe Trim for a dunk. Then Columbia’s Brett Loscalzo was left open on the left wing and he hit a 3-pointer that put the Lions back in front.

SHU answered when Brice Brooks put back on offensive board to tie the game at 59 with 1:23 to play. After both teams failed to score, Armstrong won it for Columbia.

John Baumann led Columbia (5-0) with 12 points and Ben Nwachukwu added 10 points and nine rebounds.

Three SHU players scored in double figures, led by Trum’s 26, including 18 after halftime. Drew Shubik scored 14 and Jarrid Frye 13.

Columbia led 33-23 at halftime, shooting 58 percent in the half. The Lions’ lead peaked at 11 on a 3-pointer by Brett Loscalzo with 16:06 remaining in the game.

But Sacred Heart responded with eight straight points, including six from Frye. Then Trim scored 10 points in a four-minute stretch to tie the game and a Shubik 3-pointer put SHU ahead with 7:59 left for the first time all game.

After SHU took a 54-47 lead, the Lions scored nine straight to go ahead 56-54.
