UMKC 75, Central Michigan 65

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP)—Quinton Day scored 12 of his team-high 22 points in the last 12 minutes as Missouri-Kansas City beat Central Michigan 75-65 Saturday night.

The key for the Kangaroos (2-0) was their zone defense, which held the Chippewas without a field goal for more than 13 minutes.

After Eddie Spencer scored with 9:53 left in the first half to put the Chippewas (1-2) up 20-13, Giordan Watson scored their next field goal with 16:34 left.

Meanwhile, the Kangaroos outscored Central Michigan 22-5 to take control of the game.

The Kangaroos biggest lead came with 5:08 left on a 3-point shot by Day that made it 63-49.

Central Michigan’s Sefton Barrett was the leading scorer with 25. Spencer followed with 12 and Watson added 10.

Tim Blackwell scored 18 points for UMKC, Dee Ayuba added 15 and Kyle Spears had a game- and career-high nine rebounds for the Kangaroos.
