Louisiana Tech 83, Longwood 73

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP)—Paul Millsap scored 27 points and pulled down 10 rebounds to lead Louisiana Tech to a 83-73 win over Longwood in the John Thompson Foundation Basketball Challenge on Saturday.

Louisiana Tech (1-1) used a 15-2 run early in the second half to take control of the game.

Tech opened up a 10-point lead with five minutes left in the first half but Longwood (0-2) scored six unanswered points to tie the score at 41 at the half.

Corey Dean’s three-point play off a hard drive to the basket triggered the decisive Bulldog run. Tech went up 10 on Millsap’s 3-pointer with 15:19 left and took a 55-43 lead on Terry Parker’s put-back layup.

Longwood was able to cut the lead to seven. But back to back baskets by Marcus Elliott pushed the lead back to 12 with just under 12 minutes to play. Longwood never got closer than nine the rest of the game.

Joining Millsap in double figures for Tech were Dean with 17 and Jerome Richardson with 15.

Michael Jefferson led Longwood with 26 points.
