Bucknell 56, Rider 54
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. (AP)—Kevin Bettencourt hit a jump shot with 1.2 seconds remaining to give Bucknell a 55-54 lead over Rider, then added a free throw after Rider turned over the inbounds pass to clinch a 56-54 win for the Bison Friday night in the season opener for both teams.
Rider’s Jason Thompson had hit two free throws with seven seconds left to put the Broncos up 54-53. Thompson led all scorers with 17 points.
The game was close throughout, with the lead changing hands 12 times. Rider led at the half, 29-24.
Edwin Muniz had a double-double for Rider, with 11 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
Chris McNaughton led the Bison with 14 points, and Chris Lee added 13 points and eight rebounds for Bucknell. Bettencourt finished with nine points.
