MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP)—Cartier Martin tied a career high with 24 points to lead Kansas State to an 83-58 season-opening victory over Georgia Southern Friday night.

Martin added 11 rebounds and six assists for the Wildcats, who also got 14 points from Clent Stewart, 12 from David Hoskins and 11 points from Lance Harris.

Kansas State (1-0) jumped out to a 30-12 lead in the first half on the strength of a 21-5 run. Georgia Southern (1-2) closed within 34-21 a few minutes later, but the Wildcats rattled off nine more points for a 43-21 halftime lead.

The Eagles scored the first five points out of halftime but never seriously threatened.

Despite shooting 1-of-9 from beyond the 3-point arc, Kansas State shot 50 percent from the field and took advantage of Georgia Southern’s foul trouble. The Eagles had three players foul out, and Kansas State made 30-of-38 from the free throw line.

The Eagles shot 26.6 percent, committed 14 turnovers and were outrebounded 42-29.

Elton Nesbitt led Georgia Southern with 16 points but was only 2-of-10 from beyond the 3-point arc and 4-of-17 from the field. Louis Graham added 11 points before fouling out.
