WASHINGTON (AP)— Raimondas Petrauskas scored a season-high 22 points, and Jason Thomas added 19 to lead American to a 78-59 win over Colgate Sunday.
The Eagles (12-7, 5-2 Patriot League) needed a good performance from Petrauskas as forward Patrick Okpwae was suspended indefinitely because he missed curfew Friday night. Petrauskas, who shot 8-for-13 from the floor and grabbed seven rebounds, finished two points shy of a career high he set last season against Army.
Jon Simon scored 19 points for Colgate (8-12, 3-4) which came within two points of erasing American’s 41-28 halftime lead. Leading scorer Alvin Reed was held without a point in the first half, but scored eight during an 11-0 Raiders run that cut it to 41-39. However, Colgate’s offense wasn’t the same once Reed picked up his fourth foul with 15:35 to play.
The Eagles, who held Colgate without a field goal during a five-minute stretch in the second half, also got a lift from Andre Ingram’s 16 points.
Ingram hit 6 of 12 shots, including three 3-pointers, which was a big improvement after shooting 1-for-13 from the floor in Friday night’s win over Bucknell.
American out-rebounded the Raiders 39-21 and shot 56 percent for the game.
