WORCESTER, Mass. (AP)—Kevin Hamilton scored 19 points and made key plays down the stretch as Holy Cross held off Colgate 74-64 on Saturday.
Keith Simmons scored 18 points and Pat Doherty added 14 for Holy Cross (10-5-, 2-1 Patriot). Alvin Reed scored 16 points and Kyle Roemer added 15 for Colgate (5-10, 1-2).
The Crusaders, who never trailed, led 60-49 with 8:58 remaining. But Reed scored four points and Roemer hit a 3-pointer to bring Colgate to 62-60 with 5:07 remaining. Roemer was 5-for-5 from 3-point range for Colgate, which shot 11-for-15 from long distance.
With the score 66-64, Hamilton stepped up for Holy Cross, hitting a 3-pointer and making a pair of steals on Colgate’s next two possessions, ending the threat.
Holy Cross led 39-18 on a 3-pointer by Doherty with 3:53 left in the first half. But Colgate closed the gap, making four consecutive 3-pointers to cut the lead to 32-29 with under a minute left in the half. Holy Cross led 35-30 at halftime.
Torey Thomas, the Crusaders’ starting point guard, dislocated his left shoulder in the first half.
