CARBONDALE, Ill. (AP)—Darren Brooks had 16 points, nine rebounds and five assists Thursday to lead Southern Illinois to a 61-49 win over Illinois State.
Brooks made 7-of-14 shots from the field and finished with two steals. Tony Young added 12 points for the Salukis (9-2), who led 33-23 at halftime. All of Southern Illinois’ players scored in the game.
Illinois State (8-3) tried to close the gap in the second half, but failed to overcome the deficit established before halftime.
Lorenzo Gordon had 13 points, four rebounds and four assists for the Redbirds, while Trey Guidry and Nedu Onyeuku both added 10.
