BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (AP)—Elgrace Wilborn scored a career-high 14 points and grabbed 12 rebounds as Western Kentucky beat Marshall 70-54 on Saturday.
Wilborn, a transfer from Tennessee, was in the starting lineup for the first time since the Hilltoppers’ season opener. The center recorded his second double-double of the year and blocked four shots.
Five Hilltoppers scored in double figures, including guard Anthony Winchester who had a game-high 15 points on 7-of-11 shooting.
Western Kentucky (7-1) never trailed against Marshall (1-6) and led 38-27 at halftime before opening the second half with a 7-0 run. Joe Miles led Marshall with 13 points and was 3-of-4 on 3-point attempts.
Marshall cut Western’s lead to 47-38 on two free throws from LaVar Carter with 13:33 left in the game, but couldn’t get any closer. The Hilltoppers ended the game with a 9-2 run over the last three minutes.
The Thundering Herd committed a season-worst 24 turnovers and shot under 40 percent from the field in their fifth straight loss.
