GAINESVILLE, Fla. (AP)—Matt Walsh scored 15 points and Florida hit eight consecutive 3-pointers in the first half to knock off Stetson 93-54 on Wednesday night.
The Gators never trailed and won for the first time since being knocked out of the Top 25 after an upset loss to Miami last weekend.
Anthony Roberson started the run with a shot from the top of the key to give Florida (5-1) a 10-4 lead with 16:15 left. Taurean Green followed with another 3, and Walsh, Lee Humphrey and Roberson each hit two 3-pointers as the Gators went up 39-13 with 7:38 to go.
Roberson capped the spurt with a steal and behind-the-back pass to Corey Brewer for a dunk, forcing Stetson (2-3) to call its third timeout in six minutes.
Florida went cold from behind the arc in the second half but continued to pull away as Stetson shot just 29 percent after halftime.
The Hatters committed 12 turnovers to only two assists in the first half and were never competitive.
The game’s only real excitement was at halftime when new Florida football coach Urban Meyer addressed the crowd from midcourt.
Roberson redeemed himself from a rough final minute in the loss to Miami, handing out six assists and hitting all four of his 3-point tries in the first half. Against Miami, he committed a key foul in the final minute and took two ill-advised shots in the 72-65 loss.
Roberson and Lee chipped in with 12 points each for Florida, who had 13 players score.
Borislav Djordjic paced Stetson with 16 points and eight rebounds while Anthony Register added 12.
The margin would have been even bigger if not for a disparity in free-throw accuracy. Florida went 9-for-20 from the foul line, while Stetson sank 16-of-18.
