LOGAN, Utah (AP)—Nate Harris scored 26 points and Spencer Nelson had 14 points and 11 rebounds in Utah State’s 71-57 victory over BYU on Wednesday night.
Harris matched his career high by hitting 10 of 13 shots from the field and 6 of 8 from the free-throw line as Utah State improved to 4-1.
BYU (1-4) was led by Mike Hall’s 19 points, and Austin Ainge added a career-high 15.
After a 36-36 tie at the half, the teams traded baskets until two turnovers helped the Aggies take the lead A steal by Nelson and resulting dunk by Harris, followed by a steal by Harris and a basket by Jaycee Carroll gave Utah State a nine-point lead with 6:30 remaining.
BYU was then forced to foul and Utah State made 7 of 8 free throws in the game’s final minutes to seal the win.
Ainge, who had never scored more than six points in a game at BYU, helped the Cougars to a halftime tie with 11 points. Hall, BYU’s leading scorer on the year, had 15 at halftime.
